Bilbao's nightlife comes alive in different degrees of force. As various types of citizens come to Bilbao, business savvy people have thought of different types of nightspots, to cater the ever growing night scene of Bilbao.
There are nightspots that are meant for the crowd that want a more subdued environment, just a relaxing place where they can meet up with friends and have a cocktail or two. Conversely, there are so many tapas bar in Bilbao where you can fill your tummy with the delicious local tapas and have a few drinks on the side. Then, there are Bilbao's numerous coffeehouses and bistros that have long served as sanctuary for people who love to socialize, yet would want to stay away from immense decibels of noise.
The pubs in Spain, and especially Bilbao, are hangouts for the active ones. These pubs can be quite loud, as these are musical places for drinking stern "copas," which are understood as either beer or mixed drinks such as cubatas (Cuba libres, Coca-Cola and rum). Other bar-hopping zones to try out when in Bilbao are the Paseo del Arenal, Calle Ledesma, and Calle Elcano.
