Gran Vía La principal arteria de la capital Bilkbao, 48001

Whichever part of the Gran Vía is best for leisure walks and mulling over the numerous appealing buildings speckled along its length. Sandwiched between the Plaza Circular and Plaza Moyúa , Gran Vía is a shopping and economic vicinity where buildings. On the last part of Gran Vía, another structure of great architectural beauty stands out in the shape of the Sota House .

This long road is passed by over thousands of drivers and pedestrians on a daily basis.
This vicinity accommodates as immense tradition of commerce. Of the many commercial establishments to be found in Gran Vía , two in fastidiously stand out. First is the El Corte Inglés which has been in the area for more than 30 years. The newer establishment is the Marks & Spencer .


Plaza Circular Gran Via Bilbao , 48001

The structures framing this much-visited and passed through square in Bilbao are typically huge. Some of the chief banks and financial associations are housed in these huge buildings. One of the sites to see is the BBVA bank skyscraper that truly stands out in the area. In the entrance hall of this edifice, a monument by the Basque artist, Eduardo Chillida will meet the visitors. Next to the monument is one of most renowned fountains in Bilbao . This fountain is so remarkable that it is also being used daily by many city inhabitants as a meeting area. From the Plaza Circular and going down Navarra street, you will be led to the time-honored Casco Viejo (Old Quarter). The opposite direction will lead you towards Gran Vía , the foremost access road of the city.


Plaza Moyua Gran Via Bilbao, 48009


The Plaza Moyúa , which is also known as Plaza Elíptica , divides the Gran Vía in half. The original plaza was constructed in the 1940 s but due to the several metro building constructions, it was destroyed in 1990. It was e restored and re-opened years later, still with respect to its authentic blueprint. The design was based on the formalist style of French gardens. True with the plan, the place was re-opened in 1997.
The low, boxed hedges and great variety of flowering plants prove to be unique and eye catching.
The special attractions in this vicinity are the gardens close to the water cascade in the center, and the buildings in conjunction with it such as the legendary Hotel Carlton, the Civil Government Headquarters , and the Palacio de Chávarri .

In the Plaza Moyúa and its adjacent avenues, excellent shopping and upper-class buildings flank one another, an indication of the great Bilbao spirit felt by the locals

Palacio de Chávarri, constructed in 1899, was originally a residential remuneration for the businessman Victor Chavarri . At present, it is amongst the most notable structures around the Plaza Moyúa which is halfway down Bilbao's Gran Vía . This striking edifice is a masterwork by Belgian architect, Paul Ankar. From whichever angle you view this wonderful structure, you certainly cannot help but admire it. Various windowpanes and lovely verandas, double-sloping roofs, staircases and pointed haylofts all together contribute to this attention-grabbing edifice.
